Job Title: Financial Controller
Role Summary
The Financial Controller will ensure all internal reporting requirements are met while maintaining effective financial policies and internal controls. This role will drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Budget and Planning

Work closely with the Head of Finance to prepare annual budgets and formulate medium- to long-term financial and strategic plans.

Deliver high-quality budgets on time, ensuring alignment with key stakeholders and clearly stated assumptions.

Apply group guidance on planning and budgeting, and constructively challenge business assumptions.

Provide weekly and monthly insights to senior management on financial modeling, forecasts, and profitability.
Reporting
-
Prepare monthly reporting packages and presentations to support executive management, including actual and forecasted results versus plan, prior year, and forecast, with variance analysis insights.

Analyze historical data and report on monthly financial performance and variances.

Deliver data-driven insights to facilitate decision-making, influence strategy, and guide resource allocation through monthly business reviews, ad-hoc analyses, scenario planning, and financial modeling.

Produce timely, clear management reporting packs, highlighting risks and opportunities.

Ensure timely and accurate reporting of country financial results (full P&L, line of business, and FX reviews).

Prepare and circulate Opex variance reports by cost center.

Prepare weekly and bi-weekly gross margin performance reports.

Prepare the balance sheet review file and ensure monthly reconciliations.

Liaise with business units to provide performance and efficiency insights, supporting achievement of departmental KPIs.

Provide reports and recommendations to management on any control issues.
Analysis
-
Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
-
Assess revenue performance and growth, profit and loss reports, operating variances, and key performance indicators.
-
Support decision-making by delivering timely, detailed, and meaningful insights on business performance to stakeholders.
-
Evaluate potential investments to support growth initiatives and prepare business cases for new investments and strategic decisions.
-
Identify and research variances to forecast, budget, and prior-year expenses, proactively seeking improvement opportunities.

Review commissions and discounts for reasonability, accuracy, and competitiveness as part of the approval process.
Internal Controls
-
Ensure the company’s control framework is effective, fit for purpose, and aligned with the group’s control framework.

Provide management with reports and recommendations on any control issues.
-
Assist in providing information for internal audits within set timelines.
-
Support the Head of Finance in enforcing controls, including Delegation of Authority (DOA) compliance.
Treasury & Working Capital Operations
-
Oversee receivables, collections, credit control, and cash application.
-
Oversee payables, vendor payments, and expense claim workflows.
-
Manage working capital KPIs and optimize cash management with banks, ensuring banking mandate controls are in place.
Tax Management & Statutory Reporting
-
Oversee all compliance and tax-related filings.
-
Manage tax forecasts and ensure tax-accounting accuracy in the general ledger.

Coordinate the preparation and submission of annual statutory financials.
-
Represent the company in tax audits and resolve disputes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Experience
-
Minimum of 6 years in financial management.
-
Strong working knowledge of accounting, controlling, and finance operations.
-
Experience with SAP and ODOO.
-
Strong knowledge of IFRS/IAS and group accounting policies.
-
Deep understanding of tax laws (VAT, Corporate Tax, WHT, Customs, Transfer Pricing).
-
Proven experience as a business partner, delivering decision support and enabling strategic initiatives that improve financial performance.

Excellent analytical skills and strong business acumen.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact at various management levels.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.

Independent self-starter with superior attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to drive projects across an organization.

Strong commercial understanding of pricing, unit economics, and profitability drivers; ability to perform scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and strategic support.

Ability to identify and mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks.

Strong understanding of treasury, liquidity planning, and working capital management.
-
Ability to design or improve financial processes and automation workflows.
Qualifications
-
Qualified Accountant: CPA(T), ACCA, or other professional qualification recognized by NBAA.

A Master’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field is a strong advantage.

IFRS/IAS proficiency with proven experience in statutory financial statements and audits.
-
Tanzania tax competence (TRA): VAT, WHT, Corporate Tax, PAYE, SDL, WCF, and Transfer Pricing documentation; familiarity with TRA e-filing and audit processes.
