NAFASI za Kazi Vodacom Tanzania Limited

As one of Tanzania’s most established telecommunications companies, Vodacom Tanzania Limited (VODA) is a key subsidiary of the South African-based Vodacom Group. Since its founding in 1999 and commencing operations in 2000, the company has grown from a mobile voice provider into a leading technology enabler, investing over TZS 4.5 trillion in national digital infrastructure over its 25-year history. This substantial investment has allowed the public limited company, listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, to become the market leader with approximately 31.5% of mobile subscribers. Vodacom’s strength lies in its dual focus on network expansion, covering over 95% of the population with 4G and pioneering 5G technology, and its robust financial services arm anchored by the M-Pesa mobile money platform. Reported sales for the half year ended 30 September 2025 were TZS 905,333 million, reflecting the scale and importance of its operations within the East African digital economy.

Beyond connectivity, Vodacom’s vision is centered on fostering an inclusive digital society, with its fintech ecosystem serving as a primary engine for growth. In the financial year ending March 2025, the company posted a net profit of TZS 90.5 billion (USD 35 million), a 69% jump driven by a 29.3% rise in M-Pesa revenue. To modernize its digital payment capabilities, Vodacom executed a landmark $28 million upgrade of the M-Pesa platform to a cloud-native architecture, enhancing security and scalability. This modernization supports a range of innovative services like the M-Koba group savings platform, which serves over 1.3 million customers, and new cross-border payment corridors to Uganda and China. Recognizing its societal role, the company also channels its impact through the Vodacom Tanzania Foundation, which has funded initiatives in health and education, including the m-mama program that provides emergency transport for expectant mothers, benefiting over 10 million Tanzanians
